At the turn of every year, we always ask a new but familiar question: 

Will any boys athlete break the 4-minute mile barrier? 

The historic mark has been accomplished just twice indoors all-time, while a total of 11 boys have achieved the feat outdoors, with Leo Daschbach becoming the latest -- and perhaps the effort being the most wild -- athlete to enter the club in May of this year at the Quaratine Clasico. 

Interestingly enough, though, more than a handful of boys have hung around that barrier-crosser over the course of history. A total of three boys have run faster than 4:01 indoors -- each effort coming since 2017, in fact -- while a total of 15 athletes have been faster than 4:02 in history, on top of the sub-4 runners. 

In some ways, the difference between history and just outside of it is separated by just a few feet.
