Update

Few 24-hour stretches have ever been this good to a track and field recruiting class.

Less than an hour between commitments, the University of North Carolina racked up another top five prospect on Monday, with Marianapolis Prepatory senior Sydney Masciarelli announcing on Instagram that she, too, was headed to Chapel Hill to join the Tar Heels next fall.

The 2018 Foot Locker Nationals champion and No. 2 ranked recruit came just an hour between the announcement of Brown and less than 24 hours apart from Makayla Paige, who determined her future home late Sunday night.

Much like Brown, Masciarelli represents an incredible talent capable of scoring at cross country and track and field.

The senior finished seventh at Foot Locker Nationals in 2019 and pocketed five performances under 17:20 for 5K, including a runner-up finish at Foot Locker Northeast. Masciarelli also has run 9:21.44 for 3K, 10:11.99 for 2-miles and 16:16.20 for 5K on the track.

Masciarelli's skills go beyond just running. She is a 1,000-plus scorer at Marianapolis Prepatory and was seen as a possible Division I recruit on the hardwood.

Previously

Earlier Monday morning, Denton Guyer High School (TX) senior Brynn Brown announced her commitment to the University of North Carolina women's program over the current National Letter of Intent period.

Brown -- who is currently ranked as the No. 4 recruit in our MileSplit Class of 2021 Recruit Rankings -- will join Massachusetts native and 2:08 800m runner Makayla Paige, who also verbally committed to North Carolina on Sunday.

Brynn Brown, a blue-chip top five recruit and Team Cross Country Nationals 23rd-place finisher in 2019, made headlines earlier this year after running an unofficial time of 9:39 for 3,200 meters, a mark that would have shattered the high school national record had the race taken place under ratifiable circumstances.

As for her official personal bests, Brown owns times of 4:48 (1600m), 9:57 (two mile) and 16:12 (5k XC). She was also a three-time cross country national qualifier between Foot Locker and Team Cross Country Nationals.

The back-to-back additions of Brown and Paige within a 24-hour span sends a statement to the rest of the ACC that coach Chris Miltenberg -- who is entering his second year with the program after leaving Stanford in the summer of 2019 -- is willing to heavily invest in top high school distance talents the same way he did in Palo Alto.

UNC's distance recruits for the Class of 2020 included top-tier athletes such as Taryn Parks (PA), Ava Dobson (SC) and Sarah Trainor (NY), amongst others.
