Rita Gary is the distance coach for the Furman University women, a program that has vaulted up the national rankings over the past few years and finished ninth at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Coach Gary was responsible for the development of current Brooks professional runner Allie Buchalski, as well as two top NCAA distance talents in Gabrielle Jennings and Savannah Carnahan, among others
