It's clear by now that concerns surrounding the recent spread of COVID-19 (also known as the coronavirus) have reached a high enough magnitude to impact sports, as well as our everyday lives.
In efforts to quell the spread of the coronavirus, some of the nation's largest track and field meets have been canceled, at all levels. That includes events such as the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships as well as New Balance Nationals Indoor, a high school-aged event.
However, the long-term impact of these cancellations, and future cancellations, could have an extensive impact on collegiate athletics, specifically recruiting.
Recently, the NCAA announced that all recruiting was to go into a "dead period" until April 15. As a result, athletes and coaches will not be able to have any in-person conversations until the "dead period" has passed. Virtual and written correspondence, which includes emails and phone calls, are allowed.
