Are we in store for a historic race in the girls AAU 500 meter championship on Saturday at The VA Showcase?
Well, the hype has certainly been building.
Ever since entries were announced for the fourth installment of this race, there's been one undisputed fact: This will be the fastest overall performance at 500m in high school history.
Of course, there are the primetime stars who enter with glitz: Athing Mu and Kayla Davis. But so too will the field include richly talented athletes like Michaela Rose, Aaliyah Pyatt, Aly Conyers and the Jamaican-born Garriel White -- all of which are good enough to steal away some thunder, in fact.
All six girls athletes will have a chance to break 1:14, and we could have a historic level of performers under 1:12 -- providing a crash re-order of the all-time rankings.
