North Coast Section in Review

ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

Girls Sprinter

  • CHINYERE OKORO (Amador Valley/Sr.)

Okoro (Eric Taylor photo) has been one of the top sprinters in the state for the past two seasons. Her season ended with an injury that prevented her from competing at the NCS MOC but this past season was a different story. She captured both sprint titles in the 100 and 200 and podiumed at state in both events.

Girls Distance

  • SAMANTHA WALLENSTROM (Marin Catholic/So.)/GABRIELLE PETERSON (Healdsburg/Sr.)

We have two winners here. Wallenstrom was the lone NCS athlete to win a state title. She also had the 5th fastest time in the section in the 1600 at 4:57.88. Peterson (above) raced in 33 races this past season and most of those were winning efforts. She podiumed both the 1600 and 3200 at the state meet concluding a terrific senior season.

Girls Field

  • AIRIANA DARGAN (Concord/Jr.)

Airiana Dargan of Concord won the long jump and triple jump at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions. She had a season-best of 18-7.5 in the long jump and saved her best effort of the season in the triple jump at the state meet. There she jumped 39-11.5 to finish in 4th place and will be one of the favorites next year for the state title.

Boys Sprinter

  • CAMERON REYNOLDS (Clayton Valley/Sr.)

Reynolds was quiet for most of the season but really came on at the end. He led the boys' team to section team title as Reynolds finished 2nd in the 400, won the 200 and was a member of both winning relay teams. At the state meet, Reynolds finished in 4th place in the 400 with a season best 47.31. His best effort of the season was his 2nd place finish in the 200 as he ran a lifetime best 20.99.

Boys Distance

  • LIAM ANDERSON (Redwood/Sr.)

Anderson (Pat Rhames photo above) completed one of the greatest distance careers for any North Coast Section track and field athletes. He won the 1600 and 3200 at the NCS MOC. At the state meet, Anderson finished 3rd in the 1600 and a very impressive 2nd  in the 3200.

Boys Field

  • MALCOLM CLEMONS (St. Mary's Berkeley/Jr.)

Clemons was one of the top jumpers in the state. An injury slowed him down this past season but he still posted the top marks in both the long jump and triple jump. His best long jump took place at the NCS MOC  meet with a mark of 23-9.75. His best triple jump mark of 46-6 took place at the Clash of the Titans meet (above) at Skyline HS.
