MILESPLITCA SOPHOMORE BOYS ALL-STATE TEAM

FIRST TEAM

(Listed alphabetically)

JACKSON ADELMAN (St. Margaret's/SS) -- Only one Division V runner in the state was faster and he was a senior. Adelman clocked a 15:39.5 at Woodward Park, leading his team to a resounding 68-point victory. The week before he won the Southern Section division finals at 15:31.3.

DYLAN GATUA (West Ranch/SS) -- With bests of 14:39.8 for 3-miles and 15:17.7 for 5K, Gatua placed 14th in the State Division I championships and qualified for the Nike Nationals, where he placed 78th. Gatua placed ninth overall in the Southern Section divisionals.

MATEO JOSEPH (Great Oak/SS) -- Let everyone know he'd be a factor by placing second at Woodbridge (14:44.3 for 3 miles) before clocking a personal best 15:12.0 to finish fifth in the State (15:12), leading Great Oak to the team title. Placed 43rd in the Nike Nationals as Great Oak placed second overall.

EWAN MACFARLANE (Peninsula/SS) -- Although Macfarlane didn't win any of the major meets, he finished in the top 10 of a half-dozen majors including seventh at Mt. SAC, third at Palos Verdes and second in the Southern Section prelims before placing 30th  at State in a PR 15:49.

GERARDO MORENO (Ridgeview/CS) -- Only the No. 3 runner on the state Division III championship team, Moreno none-the-less had a big season, finishing fourth in the Central Section championships (16:01.1) before placing 20th in the state at -- are you ready -- the exact same time!

COLIN PEATTIE (Bellarmine Prep/CC) -- A dominant runner, especially early in the season, Peattie placed seventh at Stanford (15:24.5 for 5K), was second in the Central Coast Section and 20th in the Division I State Championships. Captured three invitationals and was eighth at Mt. SAC in 15:01. 

JOHN WORTHY (Great Oak/SS) -- Second-place finishes at Mt. SAC (16:38 for 2.93 miles) and Clovis (16:39.2 for a 5K) set up a big improvement to 15:41.6 and a 27th place in the State Division I Championships. He was sixth at Woodbridge and second in the Southwestern League.


SECOND TEAM

Godebo Chapman (West Campus/SJ) -- The second-place finisher in the Sac-Joaquin Section in Division IV, Chapman placed 14th at Woodward Park in 16:03.

Dylan Gunn (Campolindo/NC) -- Was the No. 2 runner on the No. 2 team in Division III, placing 11th at the State Championships in 15:49.1.

Nicholas Goldstein (Newbury Park/SS) -- His team was so good he didn't even score at State yet ran a fine 15:53.2.

Sam Jones (El Camino/SD) -- Soph champion at Mt. Carmel finished fifth overall in the San Diego Section Championships.

Brandon Pizano (Dana Hills/SS) -- The No. 3 Dolphins runner, Pizano mixed it up in the State Division I Finals, clocking a 15:43.5.

Daniel Rodriguez (Highland/SS) -- No. 2 as a freshman, Rodriguez won Clovis and was third at Woodbridge.

Jacob Yagers (Highland/CS) -- The second-fastest 10th grader in the state in Division II, he ran 15:51.2 for 5K.
