Colton Kempney has held his own against some big-time competition in two different meets this season. His first big performance was at the Chittenango Invitational, where he ran a 16:17.60 to finish third behind
Fayetteville-Manlius' two stud upperclassmen, senior Garrett Brennan and junior Geoff Howles. His performance at that meet was speed-rated at a 177. His other solid performance was from the
Boys Seeded Varsity A (Small Schools) race at the McQuaid Invitational. Kempney ran 15:40.6 to finish second in the three-mile race behind North East, Pennsylvania senior Josh Lewis. His speed rating there was a 168. Overall for the state of New York Kempney has the 26th-fastest 5k time in the state with his performance from Chittenango, and the fastest 5K and three-mile time for freshmen in the state, not to mention he is the top runner on his high school's squad.
