The 300mH finals at the Orange County Championships in Mission Viejo, California, was one for the ages. Nikki Merritt from Santa Margarita Catholic High (CA) and Nyree Brown from Segerstrom High (CA) ran neck-and-neck the entire race.
Over the home stretch, they looked perfectly in sync. It wasn't until the final hurdle when Merritt got a slight edge over Brown, who clipped the hurdle. The two still finished the race within a second of each other, both running 42 seconds.
Merritt took the win by clocking a new US No. 4 time of 42.36 while Brown finished second running a new US No. 7 time of 42.53.
