The Xs and Os Behind Claudia Lane's Record-Breaking Effort At Mt. SAC

There were a number of factors that led to Claudia Lane's record-breaking run at Mt. SAC on Saturday in Walnut, California.

Patience and work ethic were prominent among them.

But ever since Lane toed the line on October 4 in her first race of the season in Ojai, California, she's been rocket fuel on every course she's touched.

She posted a 37-second improvement at the Lake Casitas Twilight and then followed the next week with 38-second bump at the TCAA Cluster.

Then there was Mt. SAC. Her 15:49.00 on the hilly, curvy Mt. SAC course not only produced the fastest girls mark on the course in its history, but also generated the highest girls speed rating of the season nationally with a 166, tying her with another big name -- Katelyn Tuohy -- who earned the mark a week earlier at the Manhattan Invitational.

How did Lane make it happen?

With one of the strongest aerobic bases in the country, she simply can dominate any time she chooses.

But Lane and her coach, Mark Larsen, had to have a specific plan for Mt. SAC. Ultimately, it came down to a very simple yet highly difficult execution on the 3-mile course.
