Lane did little wrong in 2016, winning the California Interscholastic Federation state championship in a season PB of 16:45.00, taking the Foot Locker West Regional, and then following with a win at Foot Locker Nationals in 17:04.81.

Chmiel had a tremendous sophomore cross country season, and the beginning of her postseason run began at the Section 2 Championships, where she won the 3-mile course in 16:47.71.

Story won her second straight Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association championship, finished sixth at the Foot Locker South Regional, and placed third at Foot Locker Nationals, penning a final time of 17:35.43.

The returning runner-up from NXN is in for a big year. Stratton ran a season best PB right before states with a time of 17:07.90 in the 5K and then went on to win her first Oregon State Athletic Association championship.

Ping finished sixth at NXN and fourth at the NXN Southwest Regional a year ago while she was still in Utah, which meant she wasn't allowed to compete within the varsity season in the state as an 8th grader.

Culbreath had an impeccable freshman season, winning the District 14 meet in 17:48.54, the Region 2 meet in 17:50.89, and the UIL Class 5A state meet in 17:06.72 before nabbing another win at NXN South in 17:33.80.

Outside of a 10th-place performance at NXN, Lee won every single meet she entered in 2016, taking the NXN New York Regional in 17:44.80, the New York state class B championships in 17:53.70 and earning section and division wins.

Forsyth had a fantastic year in 2016, finishing fifth at Foot Locker Nationals and 14th at NXN. A few weeks prior, she finished with her season best at the 5K distance at NXN Midwest, posting a time of 17:09.10 on a fast Terre Haute, Indiana, course.

Tuohy was 13th at NXN, fifth at the NXN New York region and runner-up at both the New York Federation Championships and the NYSPSAA state championships, producing an season PB of 17:36.70.

Halladay emerged a season ago as an up-and-coming star from the Northwest, finishing 16th at NXN, second at the NXN Northwest Region and first at the Idaho cross country championships.

Hart burst on to the scene last year as a freshman, dominating the Illinois High School Association Class 3A regular season, winning her first state title at 3 miles (16:31.00), earning a monster win at the NXN Midwest Region (17:05.00) and then finishing 18th at NXN in Portland, Oregon.

Born was 23rd at NXN and set a career PB at the NXN Heartland Region, winning the meet and earning a time of 16:49.30.

Vladic was 21st at NXN, fifth at NXN Northwest, and won her first Montana state championship at the 3-mile distance in a PB of 16:40.74 in 2016.

Hill finished 41st at NXN, won NXN Northwest in a career PB of 17:22.20, and finished seventh at the Montana state championships on the 3-mile course at the University of Missoula.

Connolly's sophomore season was a breakout one. She was ninth at Foot Locker Nationals, fourth at Foot Locker Northeast, and won her first Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association cross country title.

As an 8th grader, Fenske was 22nd at NXN, third at NXN Heartland, and earned her first Minnesota state high school league championship in a blistering time of 17:41.80.

McConnell was 17th at NXN, fifth at NXN Southwest, and finished second at the Colorado state XC championships.

Gaughan was 11th at Foot Locker Nationals, second at Foot Locker Northeast, and swept the New England championship season, taking the New England Championships (17:34.11) and the New Hampshire Meet of Champions (17:14.60).

Aldridge was 13th at Foot Locker Nationals, won the Foot Locker Northeast Region -- in a time of 17:40.30 -- and claimed her second straight NJSIAA cross country Meet of Champions victory.

Theis finished 14th overall at Foot Locker Nationals, was fifth at Foot Locker Midwest and second at her state championships in Michigan.

Sleenhof came on strong late, finishing 19th at NXN, second at NXN Southeast in a near PB of 17:24.10, and second at the TSSAA AAA championships.

Green finished 21st at Foot Locker Nationals, ninth at Foot Locker Northeast, and won the Montgomery County Championship in 17:46.62.

Roe finished 82nd at NXN a year ago, sixth at NXN Northwest, and won her WIAA class 4A championship in 17:34.10.

Hertenstein finished 20th at Foot Locker Nationals, seventh at Foot Locker South, and won her second straight FHSAA class 4A championship -- the state's largest group -- with a winning time of 17:40.36.
