Dallas Jefferson (Tx.) High graduate Michael Carter's national high school record of 81 feet, 3.5 inches is a record that may never be broken.

Olympic record holder and gold medalist Ryan Crouser, a 2011 graduate of Gresham Barlow (Or.) High, has the second farthest all-time throw of 77-2.75, which was still almost four feet off Carter's toss in 1979.

Crouser, however, has other very impressive marks in other throwing events such as the discus and javelin. Along with being the second best high school shot put throw ever, he owns the national high school discus record with a 237-6 launch in 2011.
