More coverage from New Balance Nationals Outdoor

Jordan Geist already broke a national high school record this year --he threw the 16-pound shot put for 68-4 last week-- but the University of Arizona commit has some unfinished business to take care of in his senior year versus Texas rival Adrian Piperi.

Geist assaulted the all-time performer lists throughout his junior year and ended the season as the seventh-best outdoor performer in prep history at the 12-pound shot (74-4.5) and third-best indoor performer (72-9.5).

But at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, he placed runner-up to Piperi, 73-2.75 to 73-5.25. At USATF Junior Nationals, he placed just third in his specialty event with a throw of 64-3.25, behind Piperi and Bronson Osborn, missing a chance to compete at the IAAF World U20 Championships despite his status as the nation's top-rated junior shot putter.
