In fact, one Maryland runner has been there before. Annapolis' Maria Coffin qualified for the Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego as a junior last year after finishing third at the Northeast regional. She will have her sights set on another berth to Nationals - and possibly even the individual title - this year. Joining her at van Cortlandt Park will be one of the most star-studded groups Maryland has ever sent to the race, including Abigail Green (Walter Johnson, 4A runner-up), Haley Cummins (Wright, 3A champion), Hayley Jackson (Patuxent, 2A champion) and Kelly Wesolowski (Hereford, 2A runner-up).

The girls won't be the only ones racing for the opportunity to extend their season today in New York City. On the boys' side, McDonogh's Dalton Hengst - arguably the top runner in the state - will finally get his shot at redemption in the boys championship race after being disappointed with his race last year. With a 15:11 5K under his belt the junior should be right up in the mix. Joining Hengst are some of Maryland's top runners including Ryan Lockett (Poolesville, 3A champion), Andrew Lent (Poolesville, fourth in 3A), Taylor Baranoski (Eastern Tech, 2A champion), Will Merritt (Smithsburg, 1A champion) and Declan Horner (Southern Garrett, 1A runner-up).
