4:13s for Toolin, Laverty

The state has two of its runners in the Championship Mile and both managed to crack the top 10. North Kingstown's Sam Toolin was the only freshman among the 20 competitors. He finished sixth in the seeded section and seventh overall with a personal best of 4:13.43, the nation's top time by a ninth-grader. In the first heat, Cumberland senior Sean Laverty was third and placed tenth overall with a school record of 4:13.92. Tim Bason of West Windsor (NJ) won the race at 4:11.89.
