Adidas Dream 100/Mile: Florida's History By The Numbers

The Adidas Dream 100 and Dream Mile have been very kind to Florida athletes over the past five years in the events history that featured both races. In 2010, Shelby Hates competed in the first individual high school race at the Adidas Grand Prix's Dream Mile in New York City and finished second. Since then Florida sprinters have won six Dream 100 titles (three boys and three girls).

This year's event will feature five Florida athletes in the Adidas Boost Boston Games. Tamari Davis, Amuru Patterson, and Katia Seymour will run the Dream 100 while Caitlin Collier is in the girls mile which will be contested instead as 1,500m. American Heritage sophomore Anthony Schwartz is Florida's lone entrant in the boys Dream 100 and owns a PR of 10.27w.

Current Adidas professionals Marvin Bracy and Octavious Freeman won the first meet back in 2011 with times of 10.47 and 11.78 in their junior and senior seasons respectively. Sunshine state sprinters have brought back the belt in 2012 (Levonte Whitfield) and 2014 (Kendal Williams). On the girls' side, Florida Gator Shayla Sanders won in 2012 while 18 year old Nike professional Kaylin Whitney won the meet in 2014 and owns the fastest time of 11.27 by a Floridian. A total of 19 Florida boys have run the race. Sophomore Anthony Schwartz of American Heritage who boasts a 10.27w PR will be number 20 when he lines up Saturday in Boston.

Dream Mile

Florida hasn't had the most success in the Dream Mile. Shelby Hayes in her senior year at Winter Park was second behind Maddie Meyers in the 2010 edition. However, only one other girl, Lily Williams in 2012, made the cut to run against the best milers. Caitlin Collier could break that streak this year as the Bolles sophomore has run 4:46.63 (mile), 4:51.26 (1,600m) and 2:06.74 for 800m. The event will be run over 1,500m this year as several girls look to hit the Olympic Trials qualifying standard time of 4:09.2.
