The Four Most Shocking Upsets Of The Weekend

Who: Reed Brown over Sam Worley, Worley over Brown
What: 3200m/1600m
Where: Texas State Championship

Southlake Carroll's Reed Brown has defeated New Braunfels' Sam Worley in eight of their 11 career meetings, though the two Texan juniors are always fairly close. Worley's most recent pre-state meet win came from the Texas Relays 3200m, where he ran 9:04.51 to finish four seconds ahead of Brown.

That win gave him an edge in the Texas Class 6A 3200m, though Brown's status as the national indoor mile champion made him the favorite in the 1600m.

Instead, the top-rated juniors flipped the script in two edge-of-your seat races that could only happen at a state championship: on Friday, Brown won the 3200m--8:50.43 to 8:51.44--as both ran 10-second PRs; and on Saturday, Worley won the 1600m--4:04.59 to 4:04.82--as each ran PRs of five and three seconds, respectively.
