National Weekend Rundown For April 9

La Salle Trio Splits Relay, Top Weight Throws in Rhode Island

There was at least one nationally elite 4xMile that happened outside of Arcadia this weekend, as the La Salle Academy competed at the Knights of Columbus Relays. The All-American trio of D.J. Principe, Jack Salisbury and Matt Bouthilette did not race together, however, as each actually led off a different La Salle relay; all three ran between 4:17 and 4:19.

Steve Mazzone of MileSplit Rhode Island talked to the trio after the race about their goals for the Loucks Games (8:50 or faster, says Salisbury) and the Penn Relays, where they are defending champions in the Distance Medley Relay.

"We all know what Drew's capable of," Principe said about facing Drew Hunter, the national record holder for the indoor mile, at Penn. "We're gonna have to try and do everything we can in those early legs to build up a little bit of a lead... even if he does close it, we just have to try and compete and just hang with him in that last leg."

In field event action, national weight throw champion Bobby Colantonio of Barrington tossed a new U.S. No. 1 mark of 243-6 in the hammer throw.

The senior's PR is 243-7, which ranks No. 8 on the U.S. All-Time List. In the video interview below, the University of Alabama commit says he is looking to crack 260 feet this year, a mark that only two preps in history have met or bettered: Conor McCullough (260-0) and Rudy Winkler (260-5).

Courtney Jacobsen of Toll Gate threw a U.S. No. 2 mark of 176-1 to win the girls' hammer throw.
