Utah Region II Championships (UT)

No. 5 Davis Boys 20-Second Spread, Courtney Wayment 16:58 Course Record At Utah Regionals

The No. 5 ranked Davis boys and No. 21 ranked Davis girls swept the Utah Region II Championships in historic fashion, as the boys collected their 20th consecutive title (typo in tweet) and the girls their 10th straight championship.

A stunning 20 seconds separated the boys' top five, led by Camren Todd in second place overall (14:54) behind overall champion Dallin Leatham of Viewmont (14:52). Logan Mackay, Colton Rimann, Colter Blanchard and Matt Ward filed behind in the Nos. 3 through 6 positions with an average of 15:07 over the three mile course to demonstrate this squad's force.

No. 25 ranked Courtney Wayment was bound for a breakthrough - and she may have already gotten there two weeks ago with a win at the Bob Firman Invitational. But Friday night's 16:58 course record at Layton Commons Park felt, to her, like a true measure of significant progress.

"It was hard, but I felt good and strong," she said. "I felt so ready for a big breakthrough. I am finally in shape and ready for bigger better races."

The senior ran splits of 5:42, 5:28, 5:48. She led Davis High School teammate Aubrey Argyle under the prior record as well, as the junior ran 17:22 over the three mile course. The No. 21 ranked Davis girls packed up well to win their regional easily with 18 points and five in the top six for a 1:37 spread. Only Isabella James of West High School could split up the pack (third, 17:29).
