The All-American Watch List - Boys Hurdles

MileSplit All-American Watch List presented by New Balance

Could Norman Grimes go sub 36? He ran 36.10 back in March, so his opportunities will be there with warm weather and championship season arriving in Texas.

Boys 300/400 Meter Hurdles

1. Norman Grimes (Canyon TX - Jr.) - The national leader in the 300 meter hurdles from his dominant 36.10 victory at the Texas Relays, Grimes has yet to beaten this season. Could he join a rare group of sub 36 second guys in the 300 hurdles event between his regional meet this weekend or state meet in 2 weeks?

2. Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon NY - Sr.) - The top American finisher in the 400 meter hurdles at the Penn Relays with a 51.29 personal best performance that had followed up a meet record breaking performance at the New York Relays in the previous week. The defending New York state champ in the event, Benjamin might have the best open speed than any hurdler in the country with PR's of 46.19 in the 400 and 21.05 in the 200.

3. Isaiah Lucas (Cypress Falls TX - Jr.) - The Texas Relays 300 meter hurdles runner-up, Lucas is ranked US #3 in the event from the 36.56 performance in that race. He has not been far off that time in his last two races turning in a 36.66 performance at his Texas district meet and 36.69 performance at his Texas area meet.

4. Antwuan Musgrove (Hallandale FL - Sr.) - Last year's Florida 2A state 300 meter hurdles runner-up, Musgrove has been unbeaten against in-state competition this spring with his only loss coming to national leader Grimes at the Texas Relays as well as just behind another Texas in Lucas. Texas Relays was his only loss of the season, but his fastest races of the season at US #4 36.72.

5. Chad Zallow (John F. Kennedy OH - Sr.) - While known nationally in the shorter hurdle races, Zallow is equally as strong in the 300 meter hurdles. Two years ago as a sophomore, Zallow won the Ohio state title in a 36.87 clocking. He has been chasing that time ever since to beat, but Zallow did pull off an impressive hurdles sweep at the Arcadia Invite as he won the 300 hurdles in a season best US #8 time of 37.08.

6. Isaiah Oliver (Brophy College Prep AZ - Sr.) - Out in the Arizona desert has been one of the nation's more consistent performers in the 300 meter hurdles turning in times from 36 to 37 seconds range on a regular basis. The Chandler Rotary champ in a 37.14, Oliver had a somewhat letdown race at the Arcadia Invite in a third place showing of 37.70. He bounced back recently recording a PR and US #2 time of 36.53.

7. Justin Collins (Carson CA - Sr.) - Top returnee from the 2014 California State Meet (5th) in the 300 meter hurdles finals, Collins has performed very well in big-time meets this spring including a runner-up finish at the Arcadia Invite and becoming the Mt. SAC Relays champion in the 300 meter hurdles. His time from Arcadia was a personal best US #9 time of 37.13.

8. John Lewis (Cheltenham PA - Sr.) - Early season national leader in the 400 meter hurdles before finishing just behind Benjamin at the Penn Relays with a new PR time for 47 second quarter miler and 1:50 half miler Lewis. The US #2 clocking of 52.46 at the Penn Relays for Lewis was impressive considering only his second time running the 400 meter hurdles.

9. Samson Moore (Gaither FL - Sr.) - A favorite to win the Florida 3A state title this weekend in the 300 meter hurdles, Moore owns a US top 8 ranking in the event from his 36.96 clocking at the University of South Florida on March 21st. Moore competed in the 400 meter hurdles once last May at the Golden South Classic and ran a solid debut time of 53.90.

10. Garrett Moore (Mansfield Legacy TX - Sr.) - A fourth place finisher in that ridiculously stacked 300 meter hurdles at the Texas Relays with a time of 37.14, Moore has since improved upon that performance as he most recently broke 37 seconds for the first time with a US #6 clocking of 36.95 at his Texas area meet.
