Southern Stars Inv. - Brasovan and Franklin Win

Ashley Brasovan Leads Kayla Hale at the Southern Stars Inv. Saturday

Ashley Brasovan and Joseph Franklin won their respective races Saturday at the Southern Stars Invitational, but not without a challenger.  Kayla Hale challenged Brasovan much of the way, showing why she is a Foot Locker contender as well, while Kyle Cooke gave Franklin all he could handle.  Read FLRunners.com's Jason Byrne's report on what took place.

Southern Stars Invitational - Meet Summary

There were some fun times, great performances, and big upsets!  Ashley Brasovan won the Girls Stars division as expected with Kayla Hale in tow much of the way.  Fiesty Brittany Koziara did her best to hang on and did ride their wake into the 17 minute club as predicted.  The big story in the Girls Stars race though was Our Lady of Lourdes upset national ranked #20 Lake Braddock of Virginia.  It was a battle for who had the best pack all the way and it was hard to tell from watching the race.  But when the results were tabulated it was Lourdes on top!

In the boys race it was favorite Joseph Franklin returning to Tallahassee victorious once again.   Kyle Cooke pushed the pace for a while but faded a bit toward the end.  Connor Revord fought hard with a shoulder to shoulder battle for the finish over Matt Mizereck of Leon.  Good thing he did!  They  needed the points!  Tampa Jesuit and Bishop Kenny TIED for the lead and it was Blake Lopez, Jesuit's 6 man, giving them the win!  Yes, I said BK.    They had a really great night with Leon and Miami Columbus within striking distance.  The top four teams were within 20 points of each other.

More to come.  900+ photos on Sunday.  Complete results and coverage.  Video on Monday.
