Arkansas vaulter Lexi Weeks clears US #1 13'10"

Cabot High School (AR) junior pole vault Lexi Weeks cleared an outdoor national leading height of 13'10" in the pole vault at the Bryant Hornet Relays on Thursday, which is nearly a four inch personal best clearance for the Arkansas state champion vaulter. Weeks was in the zone for only her second outdoor competition of 2014 after reaching an indoor season best height of 13'6.50" last month. She cleared successfully on her first attempts at both 13'0" and 13'7.50" before raising the bar again to a new all-time best height of 13'0" and able to clear that height as well to move herself up to a US #1 ranking outdoors in the event. Weeks did not compete at the New Balance Nationals Indoor where Desiree Freier from Texas established a new high school indoor record in the event at 14'2.75". It would be great to see Weeks and Freier compete head to head at some point this outdoor season. Freier has already cleared 13'7" in the outdoor season as a tune-up prior to her national record breaking performance at the indoor nationals. Lexi's sister Tori is also ranked among the top 10 nationally with a season best clearance of 13'0" in the girls pole vault.
