Montgomery County Invitational Meet Summary

LANDOVER, MD -- Sean Holston did it again at the Prince George County Sports and Learning Complex with his third US#1 performance in his third different event with a personal best 47.90 clocking in the 400 meter dash at Saturday\'s Montgomery Invitational in Landover, Maryland. Holston already owns the US#1 times for 300 (33.99) and 500 (1:03.94) meters as all three nation\'s best times were posted on the same track at Prince George. However, his national leading time was short lived as Chris Ward of Florida (47.42) and Curtis Bilbrew of Alabama (47.68) posted faster times on a much faster and banked track found at the University of Arkansas later on Saturday.

Holston\'s time may be the fastest ever run by a Virginian indoors for 400 meters as his time puts himself just off the US all-time top 20 indoors with a 47.60 cutoff. There are currently no past Virginians on the all-time top 20 national list and it is unlikely there is a Virginian in the one tenth of a second gap that exists from the top 20 list and Holston\'s time. Holston already finds himself ranked #20 US all-time in the 300 meter dash at 33.99 and #17 US all-time in the 500 meter dash at 1:03.93 with his times this season. The question will be if he will get another crack at the 400 meter dash this season as likely his lone remaining opportunity may be at one of the two indoor national championships in Landover with Nike Indoor Nationals or New York City with the National Scholastic Indoor Championships.

Catherine White has been on plenty of national lists as the Northside senior has put up times over the past year on the track to rank her with the nation\'s best. At the Montgomery Invitational, White won the Millrose Mile qualifier race in a season best time of 4:59.28 to break the meet record of 5:02.88. White is the first Virginian to break five minutes this season and improved upon her state best with the performance. White just missed her second meet record of the day in the 3200 meter run, which ironically was set by her last year in 10:51.56. She ran just a second off last year\'s time with a 10:52.86 victory. Her mile time is the third fastest in the country this season on a flat track and her 3200 ranks her first in the nation among flat track performances.

In the finals of the 55 meter dash, I.C. Norcom senior Isaiah Gyasi clocked a state leading and US #5 time of 6.40 to pick up the win. Teammate Mario Briscoe finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a 7.81 clocking.

Brooke Point senior and Clemson recruit April Sinkler had a busy day in the jumps with a win in the triple jump and close second place showings in the high jump and long jump. Sinkler won the triple jump with a new meet record mark of 37\'6.25\". In the long jump, she had to settle for second behind defending AAA state outdoor champion Brittni Dixon of Woodbridge with a mark of 17\'11.50\". Dixon had a winning leap of 18\'2.75\". Sinkler cleared 5\'6\" in the high jump as did event winner Audrey Gariepy of Winston Churchill in Maryland.

Mountain View boys swept the jumps with three different individuals in an amazing feat with DeShun Whitaker in the high jump (6\'4\"), Cedric Hudson in the long jump (21\'2.50\"), and Olu Olamigoke in the triple jump (46\'1.25\"). The two year old school made its presence quickly felt this past cross country season with a Northwest Region championship and strong showing at the state meet and looks to have a track team to complement its distance team to do well in indoors and outdoors as well.

T.C. Williams senior Samella Koroma improved upon her leading state mark in the shot put with her second victory at Prince George this season with a throw of 42\'3\" in the event.

Meanwhile, Lee-Davis had the top two seeds coming into the meet in the shot put with Adam Traylor and Cody Mohn. They ended up as the top two finishers on Saturday with just a switch in order as Mohn (52\'3.75\") had the better day than top seeded teammate Adam Traylor (51\'3.50\") with the Lee-Davis pair as the only competitors throwing over 50 feet.

Osbourn Park junior Bethany Hyter had the fastest time among Virginians in a deep 400 meter dash, despite not racing in the final fast section. Hyter clocked a time of 58.29 and teammed up with twin sister Brittany, who finished eighth overall and won her section as well in 59.95 to help the Osbourn Park girls win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:00.05.

Forest Park ran a state leading time in the 4x800 meter relay of 8:06.69 to defeat DC school Gonzaga (2nd, 8:09.09) and Maryland school DeMatha Catholic (3rd, 8:13.11). The Bruins just missed their second distance relay on the day with the distance medley relay near the tail end of the meet as they finished second with a time of 11:02.45 behind NTN Southeast ranked squad Quince Orchard (10:58.36) from Maryland.

Chantilly sophomore Lia Divalentin had an outstanding distance double to finish second to White in the mile run with a personal best time of 5:03.29 and also came back in the 800 meter run to run a state best time of 2:20 and finish fourth overall in the event.

West Springfield senior Mike Spooner came away from the 3200 meter run with a state best time of 9:18.86 and only one second off his outdoor personal best in the event, but did not walk away too happy finishing third after leading for the majority of the race. Graham Bazell, only a sophomore from Atholton High School in Maryland, finished strong for a 9:13.65 win, while Jason Weller from Boertown High School in Pennsylvania moved ahead of Spooner for second in 9:17.58.
