At the heart of track & field--or “athletics” as it’s widely known in most parts of the world--has always been statistics. As a uniquely measurable sport, we have always sought to know who ran the fastest, jumped the highest, and threw the furthest.
MileSplit recognized this from early on by starting the internet’s first large scale performance database in the sport in 2001. Starting with a focus on United States high school statistics, the database has expanded over the years to include collegiate and even middle school performances in some states. International affiliates were added over the last two years in countries such as Canada, The Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, and Jamaica.
As the next step in that progression, MileSplit is proud to announce Athletics Gold. The site marks our ongoing march to offer the most complete source on the planet. It offers a simple and straightforward way to follow the international elite scene and latest world and regional rankings. In doing so, it becomes the only site on this side of the pond with this offering.
The idea of being able to easily follow the progress of our athletes from the high school (or even middle school) level through college and then into the elite rankings is thrilling to most elite track & field junkies. MileSplit’s stats database now includes over 28 million performances and almost four million athletes. It spans three decades and 255 countries.
The name “Athletics Gold” invokes an international flavor, with gold signifying prestige as the universal symbol of success in athletics. We sought to focus on speed and simplicity.
