The Scoop: Georgia History, Businesslike In The Northwest And Ohio's Superb D1 Race

3. Katelyn Tuohy Is Having An Incredible Season

North Rockland sophomore Katelyn Tuohy is having a historic season.

There's no other way to put it.

She blitzed a course record at Manhattan, went No. 3 all-time at Bowdoin Park, then broke it, and then set a course record at Bear Mountain.

On Saturday, Tuohy had one of her best outings yet, scorching  Bowdoin Park in 17:10.31, breaking Aisling Cuffe's former record mark of 17:16.9.

At any given course she still has to run this season, expect Tuohy to potentially have an opportunity to strike within its course record -- even through a workout, like she did at Bowdoin Park.

Speed ratings are a quantitative measure for runner's successes, and they essentially provide a baseline value for any given performance. In that respect, Tuohy has been unbelievable.

In September, she began her season at Red Raider with a 158, then has steadily improved week by week, equaling the monster effort she took down at Manhattan, by scorching her second 166 rating at Section 1. She has four speed ratings at 160 or above and two at 158 or greater.

But Tuohy's season won't, and shouldn't, be defined by times -- even though the historic marks will stand in the books for as long as they're broken.

There's more work to do with arguably the best runner in the country. Can she race well at the state championships, at federation and at nationals?

There's little doubt there. The question is: just how great will Tuohy be?
