Flo50 Girls Team Rankings Countdown

7.

The Jesuit (Oregon) High girls won the Oregon State Athletic Association Class 6A championship in 2016, but finished sixth at the NXN Northwest Region, coming up short for a bid to NXN. That is likely to change this fall, with the program returning its top six runners, including junior Makenna Schumacher, who led the team with a sixth-place finish at the state championships. Find out more about the team below.

How has your summer training gone for your team?
We have had a great summer training cycle and we come into the season pretty darn healthy.

What do you focus on during the summer months?
Base . . . building up training volume. Building aerobic strength through some long progression runs

Who are your team captains or leaders and what stands out about them as examples for the rest of their teammates?
Keely McCormick (Sr): toughness, blue-collar work ethic.
Makenna Schumacher (Jr): attention to details, does all the little stuff, tremendous talent but also one of the most committed.
Libby Rinck (Jr): gritty, ability to fight back, growing as a verbal leader

Who are some new faces who will make an impact on your team this year (i.e. freshmen, transfers, runners who have improved a lot)?
Olivia Silenzi (freshman)
Grace Mathews (had an excellent finish to her track season)

What are some staple workouts your team does during the season?
Long progression runs (Saturday runs of 90 min with last 30-40 progressively faster). Anaerobic threshold repeats (800's or 1k's or miles on very short rest ...30 seconds)

What will be the biggest reason why your team is successful this season?
Patience. Allowing the season to develop and not worrying about being sharp in September but rather coming on in late season.

What will be the biggest obstacle or challenge facing your team this season?
Remaining patient. These are a very competitive bunch of athletes and they need to not get caught up trying to prove something early but rather focusing on better workout and race execution as the season unfolds.

How would you describe your team's culture?
Committed, passionate, supportive.

What are your top three goals for the team this fall?
1. Make excellence a daily habit. 2. Remain supportive of each other. 3. Win the state meet and qualify/place high at Nike Cross National.
