There were two national records thrown down early in the meet on Saturday.

To open up the morning events Lauren Harris of Sachem East (NY) improved her own national record in the mile race walk with a time of 6:53.44. She became the first girl to break seven minutes when she won last year at this meet with a time of 6:57.36. Read more about her performance here

Not too long after in the girls shuttle hurdles Western Branch lowered their own national record in the event with a time of 30.63, the first and only ones to break 31 seconds in the event. 

Preliminary rounds had some major performances that hopefully we'll have the pleasure of seeing run even faster in finals on Sunday. In the 400 meter Sydney McLaughlin (NJ) absolutely cruised to a US#1 52.83, she'll be running finals on Sunday and will look to improve her own national record time of 51.84 set last year at this meet.  In the 200 meter prelims Lynna Irby of Pike HS (IN) posted a US#1 time of 23.58. Western Branch continued their success from the shuttle also set a new national leading time of 1:37.08 in the 4x200 meter prelims.

A US#1 also came through in the 4 x mile championship thanks to the Shoreham-Wading River (NY) girls, who ran 20:33.12. Assumption Catholic went sub-4 minutes in the sprint medley running 3:59.31 US#1, the only school to break four minutes this season.. Then to finish out the meet and the Saturday relays, Ridge dropped some major time off their 4x800 meter to run a 9:01.64 holding off the likes of North Penn and Shenendehowa for the nationals victory. 

In the field Alyssa Wilson of Donovan Catholic (NJ) thew 54-05.25 to win her first indoor national title. She is coming off her national record of 57-05.5 at Eastern States Championships. Tara Davis of Agoura HS (CA) marked 21-2.75 in the long jump to win her national title, ranks US#4 on the season. 

Anna Hall of Denver, CO amassed 3740 points in the pentathlon: 9.46 in the 60 meter hurdles,  31-00.5 in the shot put, 17-06.25 in the long jump, cleared 5-10.5 in the high jump leading the event, and took second in the 800 with a time of 2:20.98.
