17 Bold Predictions For 2017

Reed Brown used his famous kick to become the first Texan to win Foot Locker Nationals since 1985.

Casey Clinger and Reed Brown will break four in the mile

Breaking the four-minute barrier is a  very elite & prestigious honor to accomplish. There have only been 475 U.S. milers to run sub-four. To do it in high school puts you in even more elite company. The past couple of years there has been at least one if not two high schoolers to run the mile in under four minutes. I think that there are several high school boys who could break four this year. My top two candidates are the two cross country national champions.

Casey Clinger is the back to back NXN Individual champion. On the track, Clinger has gone 1:52 in the 800, 4:05 for the mile & 8:51 for the two mile.  He also told me that during XC season, American Fork was running mile time trials and two or three of their runners were going sub 4:10 with little to no speed work at altitude.  With that kind of strength and a lot of natural speed, just wait till Clinger has the opportunity to get into a race that is not at 4,600 ft. of elevation. It's going to be scary.

Another runner that I think can and will break 4:00 in the mile is Reed Brown. Usually known more for his track credentials, Brown finished 6th at NXN this year and then came back 7 days later to win Foot Locker Nationals.  On the track, he owns PB's of 4:04 for the full mile & 8:50 in the 3200m.  Coming off an amazing XC season and having run a 4:04 mile as a Junior, I think that Reed Brown is going to be a force to reckon with on the track in 2017.
