17 Bold Predictions For 2017

Sydney McLaughlin surprised herself to break the national high school record in the indoor 400m. What surprises does she have in store for 2017?

Sydney McLaughlin will set a national record in a new event

This prediction isn't really a stretch. 17-year-old Olympian Sydney McLaughlin is the national record holder in two individual events: the 400m hurdles (54.15) and indoor 400m (51.84), and she's ranked on the top 10 all-time performer list in three other events: indoor 300m (#2, 37.49), 55m hurdles (#7, 7.60) and 60m hurdles (#6, 8.17).

I could also see her potentially breaking national records in the indoor long jump (20-7.25 personal record, 21-7.5 national record), indoor 500m (never competed, 1:10.3 NR), outdoor 400m (51.87 PR, 50.69 NR), and 100m hurdles (13.34 PR, 12.84 NR). She has said that she is interested in competing in different events during her senior year, but hasn't been too specific, so I think all of those events are within the realm of possibility! McLaughlin is truly a special talent.
