Three of America's fastest teenagers ever will face off with some of the best athletes in the world on January 30 at the Camel City Elite Invite, hosted by JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The news was announced by JDL in a press release yesterday.
Foot Locker champion Drew Hunter will race the 3000 meters against a pro field that includes Garrett Heath, Bernard Lagat, and other top pros and collegians to be announced; Anna Cockrell will contest the 60 meter hurdles against a field that includes 2013 world 100m hurdle champion Brianna Rollins; and Kate Murphy will race the mile. Hunter (Loudoun Valley) and Murphy (Lake Braddock) both hail from Virginia, while Cockrell runs for Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Hunter and Cockrell are seniors, while Murphy is just a junior. Last year, all three etched their names into the U.S. All-Time List. Murphy's 4:16.98 outdoor 1500 made her the tenth fastest high school girl ever; Hunter's 8:42.51 outdoor two mile ranked him as the ninth best performer ever, while his 8:48.22 indoor 2M is made him the No. 6 performer in that event; and Cockrell's 8.21 60 hurdles indoors and 13.21 100 hurdles outdoors marked her as the fifth and tenth best performer ever, respectively, in those events. With world-class competition and a blazing fast surface, all three could be making more history next month.
