The head coach at Marietta High School in Georgia guided the Blue Devils to win the NXN Southeast Regional with just five runners. No placeholders means no room for error, but the boys are used to high achievement this fall. The feat came after scoring just 27 points to win the Georgia Class 6A State Championship. His top five of David Savic, Hayden Tullos, Ben Patterson, Khayvonn Benson and Carlos Torres are the second Georgia boys team ever to win the Southeast region title.
1. What workout made your athletes complain the most? What of your habits makes your athletes complain the most?
Monday Hill workouts. They rarely complain or at least manage to keep it away from me. When they do it usually is related to me adjusting the workouts during week from the normal routine.
2. What was your team's biggest challenge this season?
Winning NXN Southeast without a doubt. The competition was the best we faced all year and staying sharp was a challenge.
3. How do you direct your athletes to enjoy the nationals experience while still focusing on competing?
I just keep reminding them it is a fun business trip. Flotrack putting us 21st in the rankings helped out quite a bit.**
4. How do you manage peaking for the state meet vs. peaking for regionals/nationals?
It was my 2nd time trying to double up with state and regionals. This year we did a slight mileage drop for state and a little bit larger drop for the nxn meet.
5. If you could be a Voodoo Donut, what kind would you be and why?
If you don't know what Voodoo Doughnuts are, check out their website here. Essentially, they are a Portland institution that creates the most outrageous, tasty, hipster donuts we've ever seen. This isn't an ad, we swear....

One horse sized duck of course.
