IAAF World Youth Championships: Meet Team USA!

Lauren Rain Williams

What are you looking forward to most about the trip?
The thing I'm most looking forward to is meeting athletes from different countries and being able to talk to them about their experiences about track in their countries.

How did it feel to receive all the sweet Team USA gear?
It felt amazing to receive the USA gear because I've had a USA uniform before, but knowing that I've earned this one made it even better. It was fun to take pictures and try it on with my teammates as well.

What have you been doing to prepare for the meet?
I've been training really hard, hydrating, and just focusing on why I'm here and what I want to accomplish.

What’s life like at the training camp ?
Life at training camp is like a mini party everyday. We start our days off early around 7, then we go to breakfast and practice. After that, the girls and guys go into the lounge and we talk about all kinds of things, and we play games and things like that. We pretty much do what normal teenagers do. At practice, we all do our own thing, but we still bond and have a lot of fun. Training camp has been filled with a lot of funny memories and we've grown closer as a team.

What are your goals going into World Youth?
My goals going into to world youth are to be on the medal stand in the 200 and to make this the best experience possible and enjoy the time I have with my teammates who have become family to me.

Have you done any international MileSplit stalking of athletes you will be going up against?
I haven't done any international stalking of the competitors in my events, but I have seen a few athletes from other events.
