IAAF World Youth Championships: Meet Team USA!

Mason Coppi

What are you looking forward to most about the trip?
I am really looking forward to meeting other distance athletes from around the world.

How did it feel to receive all the sweet Team USA gear?
It was pretty amazing to open that box and pull out all those Nike uniforms, warm ups and travel gear. I had heard stories about how much stuff you get, but it was still more than I expected. It really hit me that I am part of Team USA when I tried on my shorts and singlet.

What have you been doing to prepare for the meet?
I am following the training plan that my high school coaches have set up for me, which includes hill training, tempos, speed workouts and long runs. Besides that I am just trying to get enough rest, stay loose, keep the right mental attitude and eat healthy.

What’s life like at the training camp ?
We've been busy with training, meetings and team building exercises, but it's been a lot of fun getting to know my teammates.

What are your goals going into World Youth?
I just want to perform to the best of my ability. If I do that I should make it to finals and score points for my team.

Have you done any international MileSplit stalking of athletes you will be going up against?
I haven't had time for that yet, but you can be pretty sure that I will. I like to do a little research before every race. It is always fun to see where your competitors come from and what they have accomplished before you meet them at the race.
