Championship of America Girls 4x800 Finals

Holmwood Tech girls hoist their Jamaican flag after winning in 9:01.31

Recap: Although this year's COA 4x800m didn't result in three sub 9:00 performances with an American taking the win, it still was an exciting 3200m relays as two Jamaican squads took it from the gun and had the entire USA attempt to run them down.

Vere Tech (L) and Holmwood Tech (R) rubs elbows as the US chases them

The only other team besides Holmwood Tech, JAM and Vere Tech, JAM under 2:20 for its opening leg was Elise Claffey of Great Valley, PA (2:19.23). After a 2:11.20 second leg from Faith Ross, the New Balance Nationals Indoor 4x800m Champs Western Branch Bruins, were able to reel in Great Valley going into the third legs. The American duo was able to shorten the gap Vere Tech had on them, but Holmwood Tech created even more separation between them and the chasers.

Leave it to Amanda Thomas of Western Branch to drop the fastest split (2:07.83) and make the final leg exciting for the fans as she blew past Vere Tech and closed the gad on Holmwood Tech. Thomas ran out of real estate though as Holmwood Tech finished strong to a 9:01.31 victory. Western Branch got 2nd in 9:07.71, Vere Tech (9:13.06), and Great Valley hung on for 4th (9:14.81).
