Friday Highlights from Penn Relays

Championship of America Boys 3K Run

Recap: Last year Alex Ostberg (CT) got 3rd in this race behind race champion Drew Hunter (VA) and runner-up Justyn Knight (Canada). With Hunter in the mile and Knight running for Syracuse University, on top of all the accolades Ostberg has piled up, the Stanford commit was without a doubt the favorite entering today's race. Despite some scares, mainly from NY State Champ Aidan Tooker, the favorite did not disappoint.

Aidan Took (2) leads and stays out of the chaos behind him

Ostberg wasn't afraid to take the early lead in this bout as he took the field through the first lap at the front. Tooker showed some aggression and confidence as he led the pack through 800m in 2:15. A lap later Ostberg was back in the lead then Tooker lead the way through the 1600m in 4:33. The two pure distance standouts traded off leads as they shook off the entire field except Kevin James (PA) who we've seen on some fast Cardinal O'Hara teams in the past at Penn Relays. James fizzled out over the last 400m allowing PA State XC Champ Jake Brophy to take over 3rd place (8:29.12). Fellow PA great Casey Comber (8:34.68) had a great finish for 4th, but even better was Ostberg as he found another gear and left Tooker all alone. Ostberg won in 8:23.95 to Tooker's 8:27.34.
