Recap: Anna Cockrell (Providence Day School NC) led the Jamaicans and the field through the first two thirds of the race, but Junelle Bromfield of St. Elizabeth Tech from Jamaica ran her down in the final 100 meters for a 1:00.80 victory. Cockrell held on strong for runner-up honors at Penn Relays in a final time of 1:01.45. Last year's New Balance Nationals outdoor 400 meter runner-up Emma Gallagher of Benjamin Cardozo placed 4th in the first section with a time of 1:04.44.
In section 2, Brandee Johnson of Nansemond River (VA) and Markeeta Thomas of Paul Robeson (PA) had a spirited battle down to the wire with Johnson (1:01.50) able to edge out Thomas (1:01.71) to place fourth and fifth place.
However, the first two section competitors were all in vain as it was Pennsylvania state indoor 400 and 200 champ Brooklyn Broadwater who stole the win out of section 3 running her first 400 hurdles race since 2013 with the fastest time overall in 1:00.69.
