SIOUX FALLS — Yankton’s Annie Kruse and Brice Cowman swept medalist honors at the weather-shortened O’Gorman Invitational, held on Friday at Pasley Park.
Yankton won the girls’ title in the five-team event, beating Harrisburg by 15 points. Brandon Valley beat out Yankton for the boys’ title.
Kruse finished the 3,200-meter course in 11:55, 28 seconds faster than Madi Schandelmeier of Luverne, Minn. Yankton’s Savannah Woods was third in 12:46.
Also for the Gazelles, Lauren Graves finished 10th (13:26), Whitlee Larson placed 12th (13:35), Ashtyn Haak placed 19th (13:47) and Tristin Roy finished 27th (14:30).
Cowman finished the 4,000-meter course in 13:33, 21 seconds ahead of Brandon Valley’s Jakob Hanna. Yankton’s Justin Grode was fourth in 14:24. Also for the Bucks, Kyle Bergeson finished 15th (14:54), Paul Fanta placed 19th (15:09), Andrew Peitz placed 20th (15:10), Evan Moon finished 24th (15:29), Morgan Hill placed 28th (15:48) and Sam Gusso finished 30th (16:08).
Yankton also won the JV girls’ team title, with four girls in the top six. Madison McClure won the 2,400-yard race in 9:55.
Yankton ran away with the JV boys’ title, putting five runners in the top six. Brody McClure won the 3,200-yard race in 12:21, with teammates Hiram Alvarez and Brady Jaquith right behind him.
Next up for Yankton is the Brandon Valley Invitational on Thursday.
BERESFORD — Gayville-Volin’s Laura Nelson and Dakota Valley’s Graham Bacon claimed medalist honors in the Beresford Invitational cross country meet, held on Friday at The Bridges at Beresford Golf Course.
Nelson pulled away from the field to finish the 4,000-meter race in 14:53.02, nearly 40 seconds faster than Lennox’s Maisey Bainbridge. GV’s Genevieve Clark finished third in 15:50.04.
Garretson, which had Haley Sage and Carmen Bohl placed fourth and fifth, edged host Beresford for team honors, 44-48.
Bacon edged Lennox’s Nathan Timmerman by three seconds, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 18:12.90. Elk Point-Jefferson’s Hunter Paulsen placed third in 18:17.10.
Lennox put four runners in the top 13 to earn team honors with 30 points. Beresford (54) and Garretson (55) finished second and third.
Sioux Falls Christian’s Megan DeWeerd and Lennox’s Taden Wilson earned JV medalist honors, with Beresford sweeping both team titles. The host Watchdogs also won both middle school titles, with Beresford’s Cait Savey and Jake Limmer earning medalist honors.
MADISON — The West Central boys and Madison girls each claimed 1-2 finishes in the weather-shortened John Collignon Invitational cross country meet, held on Friday in Madison. No team points were kept.
West Central’s Garrett Miles and Derick Peters went 1-2 in the boys’ race, with Madison claiming four of the next five spots. Madison’s Emily Hawkes and Hailey Streff went 1-2 in the girls’ race, with Tri-Valley freshman Riley Halman in third.
PIERRE — Pierre’s Rachel Propst and Jebben Keyes swept the varsity races at a cross country triangular with Aberdeen Central and Rapid City Central, held on Friday in Pierre.
Keyes won the weather-shortened boys’ race in 13:53.26, seven seconds faster than Aberdeen’s Tanner Peltier.
Propst clocked a 15:33.39 to finish 10 seconds ahead of Rapid City Central’s Adeline Straatmeyer.
