Team Breakdown: PIAA District 3 Boys

D3-AA Boys - Team Breakdown

The boys from Wyomissing Area were tested all season long and it paid off at the right time. Wyo beat out York Suburban for the District 3 Class AA title last year by 9 points and then a week later, won a close one to take the PIAA crown.

This squad comes in as our Preseason AA #3 team despite losing two of its top three runners -- Joe Cullen and Matthew Driben -- from last year's squad. But five state champs from 2017 are back and looking to keep that title in house. Ben Kuhn, third at districts last year, will assume the team leader's role. Josh Diehl and Thomas Foster are also back and will be powerful assets to this team. Wyo comes in as the District 3 favorites once again this fall.

York Suburban, which won four straight D3-AA titles before placing second to Wyomissing last year, will have some retooling to do. Last year's district champ and state runner-up Bryce Ohl has graduated, but Jarrett Raudensky (fifth at districts and tenth at states) returns to lead this team this season. Andrew Paskey and Jordan Ohl are also back, but YS will need to add depth to make a run at states this season. This program has done a god job of that over the last decade, so expect YS to contend once again.

Milton Hershey, which earned the third and final state qualifying spot last year, will also be in the mix. Gary Waters will lead this team, which brings back two other varsity runners from last year. Eastern Lebanon County also returns three varsity runners from last year. After taking fourth last year, ELCO will have some rebuilding to do, but has a good core in place.

Big Spring, Boiling Springs, and Fleetwood Area will all have a good shot to compete for one of the three available state spots this season.
