Exactly one month after his last race at the 3A Region 4 Championships on April 26, 2018, and being arrested on burglary charges four days later on April 30th, Miami Norland's Tyrese Cooper was back on the track at the 12th Annual Mark Trail Invitational in Georgia.
In true Tyrese Cooper fashion, he competed in just about every event he could, and didn't disappoint the crowd on hand winning the 100m dash in 10.60s, the 400 in 47.18, and closing out the event with a 21.38s performance in the 200m dash.
Cooper, who owns multiple age group and high school class records, had just won the 200 and 400 meter dash at the 3A Region 4 Championships, and was second in the 100 meter dash. He had high hopes to win his third straight state title in the 2 and 4 and perhaps pull off the sprint trifecta before the arrest put those plans on hold.
Last year, his season extended well beyond the state meet including New Balance Nationals where he won both the 200 and 400, USA Juniors, and both the AAU Junior Olympics and National Championships. It will be interesting to see which of those he plans on attending in the coming weeks. One thing we do know from Cooper's Instagram account is that he plans on getting back on track both in life and in the sport and still has some lofty goals for the future.
