The Scoop: An Arizona State Record Goes Down, And More Top US No. 1 Weekend Efforts


Marietta (GA) High senior Sterling Lester continues to be one of the most impressive, and versatile, athletes in the country. 

Just a week removed from her second-place pentathlon effort at New Balance Nationals Indoor, Lester went a US No. 3 time of 54.41 seconds in the 400m. She also won the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 6 inches. 

While that's still a stone's throw away from her PR of 52.69 and her usually consistent times in the 53s, Lester is just beginning her outdoor season and may even extend her interests beyond one single event. 

The senior will be eyeing her first outdoor state title in the 400m -- she's finished second the past two seasons -- but could also set her sights on an attempt at the outdoor heptathlon at New Balance Nationals Outdoor. She's competed in the
