Who Teams: Flo50 No. 14 Green Hope
Why:
Class 3A - In this matchup, we will see Flo50 No. 22-ranked Cameron Ponder from Mount Tabor High School go up against David Melville from Northern Guilford High School. The duo has faced off twice this season, splitting wins. Melville got the first win over Ponder at the adidas XC Challenge where he placed third and Ponder placed seventh. Then just last weekend Ponder got a three-second win over Melville at the NCHSAA 3A Midwest Regional. With that race fresh on their minds, the race this weekend should be one heck of a battle. Not to mention Melville will be looking to go for his third-straight 3A state title while
Ponder will be looking for his first after he finishing runner-up in Class 4A last year to 2017 Cardinal Gibbons graduate Connor Lane and fifth the year before that.
Class 4A - The big name individual to watch in Class 4A is Flo50 No. 19-ranked John Tatter from R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem. He jumped into the national spotlight after winning the adidas XC Challenge this September running 15:00.70. He finished third at last year's Class 4A NCHSAA State Championship behind Lane and Ponder. Even with Lane graduated and Ponder in Class 3A now Tatter's win won't come easy as the Green Hope duo of Peyton Barish and Finn McBride will look to chase after an individual title of there own. They will also be looking to chase after those low sticks to help their Flo50 No. 14-ranked squad take home the win.
