Weekend Rundown: Katelyn Tuohy Smashes Manhattan Record With 13:21.8 4K

Saturday's MileStat Invitational was expected to be fast.

And it certainly didn't disappoint, with one of the Virginia's fastest courses whipping some of the state's top talents through grass terrain. It mostly lived up to billing, with eight athletes converting on times under 15:40 at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, though no one broke the elite-standard of 15 minutes.

Still, the boys race provided a surprise with Cosby's Grant Northcutt outkicking Grafton's Price Owens for the win in 15:19. Owens followed in 15:25 while Cary Academy's Coleman Mitchell was third in 15:28.

Northcutt, ranked No. 8 in Virginia, came up with a huge head-to-head win over Owens, the state's No. 4 talent and nationally ranked at No. 16.

    Top 5 Boys

    1 Grant Northcutt Cosby 15:19 4:56/M
2 Price Owens Grafton High School 15:25 4:58/M
    3 Coleman Mitchell Cary Academy 15:28 4:59/M
    4 Nolan Harris Auburn 15:29 5:00/M
    5 Trevor Warren Trinity Kentucky 15:31 5:00/M

The girls race played out more strategically, with the Blacksburg girls placing Kaitlynn Wolfe and Ailene Edwards in the second- and third-place positions, while the remainder of its scoring five crossed in the top 21 finishes.

Wolfe and Edwards both logged impressive outings of 17:33 and 17:59, respectively, while the rest of the squad ran 18:59 or faster, creating a solid 86-second spread.

The Bruins scored a winning mark of 49 points and averaged 18:26 over its scorers.
