Springville's Boys Punch Ticket To State In Convincing Region Win

Springville's boys have been battling with powerhouse program Timpanogos all season, and on Saturday the Red Devils solidified their second most important win of the season at the Region 8 Championships.

Booking a trip to the state championships, Springville, ranked No. 7 in the Flo50 national rankings, knocked off No. 6 Timpanogos, 21-37, watching as junior Grant Gardner found his top form to win in 14:43.80 at 3-miles.

And it wasn't easy.

Springville's plans saw its first four runners assert themselves in the front and eventually the pack crossed the finish in 1-2-3-4 while its fifth came through in 11th place, giving the Red Devils a 60-second spread and 15:04 average.

Timpanogos went 5-6-7-9-10 on a 31-second spread and averaged 15:24.

But now comes the hard part.

Springville's depth will need to once again execute on October 18 at the class 4A championships in Utah if the Red Devils, who finished third last year -- while Timpanogos was second -- want to earn a state title.

Soon enough, we'll find out.
