The Scoop: The Greatest Weekend Of Prep Track And Field Action Yet

7. Thomas Burns No. 2 All-Time Hurdles at Great Southwest

We're starting things off with a phenomenal performance.

It seems as though Miami Northwestern (Fl.) High junior Thomas Burns just keeps getting better every time out.

The FHSAA state record holder in the 300m hurdles demolished his previous best time in the event, going 35.25 seconds at the Great Southwest Classic on Saturday at the University of New Mexico, which set off a chain reaction of records.

It was the US No. 2 all-time performance, a junior national class record, the new US No. 1 mark and a meet record.

But perhaps the drive for history came with the presence of a national field. It was one of the junior's first opportunities at a national meet. And with it came the kind of competition that would boost Burns' performance.

Plano (Tx.) High senior Charles Brockman went 35.62, producing his second time under 36 seconds, Langham Creek (Tx.) High junior Eric Edwards went 36.62 and St. Thomas Aquinas (Ks.) High junior Noah Green went 36.28.
