Boys Field Events Preview

The field events might not have the quantity they have in year's past, but it makes up for that with the quality of competition.

Long Jump

4A state champion Nyron Tate comes in with a personal best of 23-8.75 and will face off against 2A state champion Queshun Watson of Sebastian River who nearly missed 24 feet at state, jumping 23-11.

Triple Jump

Oakleaf junior Melvin Briley was undefeated in the triple jump in 2017 including a 4A state title and PR of 49-7. His biggest challenge will come from 2A runner-up Tony Bridges of Pine Crest (48-2) and state finalist Jaasiel Torres (48-10) of Sarasota.

High Jump

4A state champion Jaasiel Torres of Sarasota is 18th in the country with his best of 6-11.75. State finalists Andre Foster, Dakari Hill have cleared 6-6 or higher this and also hope to be in the mix.

Shot Put

Several of the state's top shot putters including five over 50 feet. Hallandale's Milton Ingraham is one of the top seeds and finished third at the 2A state meet.

Discus

Ingraham will face off with his biggest shot put competitors in Anthony Pierce and Seth Walter again in the discus.

Pole Vault

Another pair of state champions square off in the pole vault. 2A champion Noah Mumme of Satellite and 4A champion Greg Skage of Winter Park are two of the top seeds and finished 3rd and 4th last year at Flo Golden South. Skage is the only one in the field to have gone over 16 feet and has a PR of 16-9.25. Others to watch include Davis Ott of George Jenkins who won the prep division last year and Jonathan Griffin-Heard the 4A runner-up.
