Port Arthur Memorial Becomes Third Team All-Time To Run Under 40 Seconds In 4x100

AUSTIN, TX -- The Port Arthur Memorial (Tx.) High boys 4x100m relay team became just the third high school team all-time to run under 40 seconds Friday at the University Interscholastic League Championships, winning the Class 5A title in 39.80 seconds.

The team consisted of Ireon Brown, Kary Vincent, Xavier Hall and Deandre Angelle. The only team to run faster all-time is Fort Worth Wyatt, which set the national record in 1998 with a time of 39.76 seconds.

But Port Arthur wasn't finished.

The same team came back only a few hours later and dropped a new US No. 2 all-time effort in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:23.52, becoming just the seventh team ever to run under 1:24. Fort Worth Wyatt also holds the national record in a time of 1:23.31.

Manvel finished in second in both the 4x100 and 4x200. Manvel clocked a new US No. 2 time of 40.08 seconds in the 4x100, while Lancaster finished third with a US No. 5 time of 40.31.

In the 4x200 Manvel's time of 1:24.05 was good for a new US No. 9 all-time mark.

Port Arthur's times also break the old Class 5A meet records in both events. Houston Forest Brook -- only the second team to break 40 seconds in the 4x100 -- held the previous 4x100m record time at 39.95 seconds, while Fort Bend Marshall held the old 4x200m record time of 1:24.01.
