Rhode Island Entries At NXN-NE Regional (Updated)

Back in 2014, the Rams earned a trip to the nationals in Portland, Oregon by winning the NXN-NE meet. Last year La Salle fell short in making a return trip out west, but it did have two of its individuals earn a berth with DJ Principe and Matt Bouthillette finishing among the top 5. The Rams may be a long-shot to make it as a team this year, but Principe certainly should be looked at as the favorite, considering the season he has had this year and based on what he did the last time he was at Bowdoin Park two months ago. At the Bowdoin X-C Classic on Sept. 24, Principe established the current course record by winning his second straight title with a time of 15:23. There's also a chance that his young teammate, freshman Max DiMuccio, could even qualify, given the right kind of race. Last year, North Kingstown's then-frosh Sam Toolin just missed earning a trip by placing ninth overall. DiMuccio is having a nearly mirror season that Toolin had as a ninth-grader, perhaps a little better. The top five individuals that are not on a qualifying team earn berths to the nationals so another top 10 finish by one of our frosh could be enough.
