No. 3 Neuqua Valley Boys Win in Illinois Without 3 Of Top 7

The No. 3 ranked Neuqua Valley boys proved they are the team to beat in Illinois by winning the Hinsdale Hornet Devil Invitational with just 36 points. Jake McEneaney led the crew in third place with a 15:05 run over three miles, as the rest of the top five placed fifth, sixth, eighth and 14th.

Head coach Paul Vandersteen revealed after the race that three of the top seven sat out, including projected No. 4 Daniel Winek, who was recently diagnosed with a double sacral stress fracture, and projected No. 2 Scott Anderson, who is on the mend and should be racing soon.

Hinsdale Central senior Blake Evertsen defended his individual title here with a new course PB of 14:48.6. According to Tony Jones of IL MileSplit, Soren Knudsen of Minooka set an early pace of 4:49 for the mile and 9:59 at two miles before Evertsen took over. Knudsen would place second in 15:02.
