An Emotional Gabrielle Jennings Closes Career With 44 State Titles

Louisiana legend Gabrielle Jennings swept the 400m, 800m, 1600m and 3200m at the LHSAA Class C State Championships last night to close her prep career with an astounding 44 state titles.

The senior from First Baptist Christian School won her first state title in 2008 as a 10-year-old fifth grader.

Since then, she hasn't stopped winning. According to Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com, Bernie Moore Stadium announcer Michael Boyer read out a full list of her accolades during her final race, the 3200m, but the list was so long he had to start before the gun went off.

The Furman recruit crossed the line in 11:34.23 with tears streaming down her face. Watch the video below to see her emotional finish.

After the race, she told Lopez that the moment hit her when the PA said her name over the intercom.

"It's happened so many times but it seemed surreal," she said. "I told myself earlier today I was going to run with my legs and not my heart... That was the moment I realized that was it. I'll never hear my named called before a race. Whenever the last lap, and he was like 'Listen to this…" and I really didn't want to because I was going to start crying even more. I'm growing up and this a lot of memories down in the book -- the book of Jennings."
