La Salle girls do it again at New Balance Nationals!


The La Salle Academy girls repeated the magic on Saturday.

For the second straight year, the Lady Rams captured the 4xMile Relay at the New Balance Nationals. The quartet of Karina Tavares, Grace Connolly, Emily Kane and Eliza Rego combined for a winning time of 20 minutes, 11.70 seconds. La Salle was comfortably ahead of second-place Saratoga Springs (NY), which finished with a time of 20:22.78.

The defending champion Rams didn't fare quite as well in the boys' race, but still achieved All-American status with a third-place finish. The foursome of Alex Campagna, DJ Principe, Matt Bouthillette and Jack Salisbury combined for a time of 17:24.91.  Carl Sandburg (IL) won the race at 17:16.36, just edging St. Anthony's by .09.  The Rams' Principe clocked an all-time best of 4:10 for his third leg. In the unseeded section, Cumberland was eighth overall with a time of 18:05.90. Bishop Hendricken was ninth at 18:06.90.

Barrington junior Mars Bishop ran a personal best of 4:18.49 to place fifth in the Emerging Elite mile.

In a qualifying heat for the 400m dash, Classical senior May Stern was second with a time of 55.54.

Two-time state champion Anthony Shepard of South Kingstown took 17th overall in the long jump with a leap of 21-8.75.
